Aluminium Venetian Blinds
- Practical in any space venetian blinds will not only minimize glare on computer or TV screens/monitors, but it will also nurture your desire for an elegant modern solution that allows minimal light to enter, but still ensures privacy.
- Blinds are available in slat widths of 25mm and 50mm and the slats are made from high tensile, vinyl coated aluminium with a thickness of ±0.21mm for 25mm and ±0.23mm for 50mm.
- Stainless steel pins are used to prevent rusting (at the coast this cannot always be guaranteed, yet the life span is far longer than that of metal pins).
- Cords, ladders and head- and bottom rails are colour coordinated as close as possible to the colour of the slatting, but a 100% match can never be guaranteed!
- The 50mm powder coated galvanized steel headrail comes complete with endcaps and plated steel universal installation brackets. Plated steel installation brackets are used with the 25mm powder coated Aluminium headrails, rounded off with plastic endcaps. On request, moulded plastic (for 25mm) and metal (for 50mm) hold-down brackets for the bottom rail are available.
- Aluminium or metal headrails can corrode if subjected to high levels of moisture and salt, ie at coastal areas or close to the sea. One needs only to look at aluminium handles, door and window frames!!
- Opening, closing and tilting of slats to any desired angle is controlled by a clear hard plastic wand through the tilter gear for 25mm. With 50mm blinds these actions are performed by pulling on cords, stylish rounded off with tassels.
- Even though the 50mm venetian comes standard with ladder string, why not create your own unique style by rather using ladder tape (20mm wide ladder cloth) instead of the ladder string in the same or contrasting colour?
- Wood trimmings (wood valance, wood bottomrail, wood tassels) are standard with both the 25mm and 50mm wood-lookalike venetians. 50mm Wood-lookalike blinds have become as fashionable and sort-after as the real macoy with the added advantage of stability.
- The 50mm aluminium venetian can be easily fitted into large openings as they are far lighter than wood and easy to handle.
- The aluminium wood-lookalike blind with wood trimmings is an exciting product as an alternative to real wood.
Colour Accuracy Policy:
Although we do our best to make sure that the colours printed on our web site are accurate, actual colours will vary. In addition, subtle colour differences and textures may not be fully appreciated on some systems due to differences in monitors and/or display cards. Due to the fact that our products are all custom made, and can’t be returned, you need to be sure that you can live with any colour variations that are possible from our scanning of the actual samples. If an exact colour match is required, then please request a sample before placing your order. Once you receive your sample, keep in mind that all samples may still have minimal colour variations as stated by the manufacturers.
Always use a metal tape measure and NOT a cloth one as these are known to stretch and thus be inaccurate. All blinds are made to specified measurements, therefore we, as the manufacturer, cannot be held responsible for incorrect sizes/dimensions given by the client. Faxed or emailed orders are thus preferred and NO verbal or telephonic orders will be accepted. All the sizes should be given accurately in MILLIMETRES. Blinds measurements must be PRECISELY FROM WALL TO WALL – we shall make the necessary deductions ourselves, except if you already know the blinds’ final dimensions, in which case you must clearly indicate that fact, and that no deductions should be made!
- All measurements in mm
- Always work on the smallest measurements
- Measure where the blind will be installed in the opening (reveal / windowsill) – back (closer to the glass); centre (middle of windowsill / reveal) or front (closer to the edge of the windowsill)
- Always order WIDTH x DROP (HEIGHT) and not the other way around!
REMEMBER TO ALWAYS GIVE THE WIDTH FIRST, THEN THE DROP!
VENETIAN BLINDS (ALUMINIUM, WOOD, PVC & VINTAGE)
Always specify side of control mechanism. Specify whether the blind is recess or face fit, recess meaning the blind will be installed inside the opening / window and face fit meaning the blind will be fitted in front of the opening, (on the front of wall) and the control side. Indicate the width of slat (50mm or 25mm) as well as the correct colour. For reveal measurements we work to the following: on 25mm & 50mm aluminium venetians we deduct 10mm off width and 5mm off drop; and on 50mm bass and 50mm PVC venetians we deduct 10mm off width and 5mm off drop; on 50mm Vintage we deduct 15mm off width and 5mm off drop working to a tolerance of 3mm on each product.
When measuring for face fit add ± 100mm for both width and drop. For blinds going down to the floor do the necessary deductions so that the blinds will not “lie” on the floor when they are open full length. Remember that a blind that fits on the outside of a window must hang past the windowsill therefore add on for exact length. For 25mm venetians you are supplied with the necessary components for your DIY project. For the other products only the brackets are supplied as customers prefer to use their own plugs and screws depending on form and position of installation. Remember to order correct blind size!
PVC Modwood 50mm
- This product (available in slat width of 50mm only) is a great alternative where the environment is not suitable for real wood blinds.
- Modwood is becoming ever more popular in creating an attractive and modern look.
- Even though this venetian comes with a standard PVC valance and ladder string, why not create your own unique style by rather using ladder tape (20mm wide ladder cloth) in the same or contrasting colour?
NB! Please note that the lift control (cordlock) and tilt control (tilter) will be on opposite sides of the blind. Should the cordlock be on the lefthand side, the tilter will be on the right and vice versa. Please remember that the side on which the cordlock is situated, is always referred to as the control side.
- This product is made from a high quality and ecofriendly PVC. BUT REMEMBER IT IS A PVC PRODUCT; therefore there is NO guarantee on warping, bowing, discolouring, etc. Over a period of time fading may occur – to minimalize this, please regularly tilt slats in both directions.
- This is a very robust product, ideally suitable for areas with humidity (different to heat buildup) and high moisture. Ventilation in these areas are very important, as heat buildup and wetness will cause problems. The temperature between blind and window can be double the temperature in the sun. The PVC slatting is ideal to use in moist areas but high concentrations of moisture can cause corrosion of the headrail whether aluminium or metal. Humidity caused by steam with still enough ventilation, is not the same as humidity caused by windows/doors staying closed for long periods of time where one can actually smell the wetness / dampness. Even damp or clammy walls can cause problems to the blinds.
- Modwood blinds are 35% heavier than real wood and large blinds are not suitable for areas where they have to be lifted regularly.
- NB! This product has to be stored flat and in a cool place before installation – if placed in a skew position the slats will warp before installation!

Vintage 50mm
- This unique and proudly South African product is manufactured and tested by a local manufacturer. It is a very good alternative to Modwood blinds and will definitely add to your exclusive style or individual finish and is available in trendy colours to enhance your home and décor.
- This product comprises several natural and consistent, foiled patterns and is only available in 50mm width slatting.
- Vintage venetians are also very unique in that the grain on either side of the slatting differs – this is not a defect in the slatting. The back of the blind (side facing the glass) will have quite a few knots which will not be randomised and may form a pattern.
- Vintage slats are manufactured from advanced Polystyrene Polymers (a substance which has a molecular structure built up mainly or entirely from a large number of similar units bonded together, eg many synthetic organic materials used as plastics and resins) which are more rigid than normal PVC. This makes the Vintage slats more resistant to cracking, peeling, scratching, extreme discolouration and excessive warping as these Polymers’ melting temperature and heat distribution are about 10°C higher than PVC, therefore stronger.
- Being entirely water resistant these slats are ideal for damp areas where there is enough ventilation for them to dry out as warping can occur otherwise. They are also ideal for hygienic application as they are resistant to mildew and have anti-fungal properties. These blinds are therefore ideal for bathrooms (except inside a shower cubicle), kitchens and other moist areas. They are not suitable for exterior use.
- Please remember that 50mm venetian blinds are manufactured for light control and not entire privacy due to the thickness of the slats.
NB! Please note that the lift control (cord lock) and tilt control (tilter) will be on opposite sides of the blind. Should the cord lock be on the left hand side, the tilter will be on the right and vice versa. Please remember that the side on which the cord lock is situated, is always referred to as the control side.

Wood 50mm
- These are probably the most beautiful window covering products.
- Our slat widths are available in 50mm width only.
- Our products are crafted from the finest quality wood. As these are true wood products there will be variation in colour, grain texture and warping depending on the environment in which the forests are grown as well as from which section of the tree the wood is derived. These are natural characteristics of wood and not flaws.
- Wood venetians cannot be guaranteed against a natural tendency to warp, especially if used in extremely humid / wet areas, therefore one must be careful not to install them in areas where ventilation is minimal. Remember all wood still remains natural!
- Close to the sea, try and keep the blind in a pulled up position when windows are fully opened. This will deter the build-up of salt deposit on the slats thus giving the blind a longer life span.
- Should it be necessary to clean, other than normal regular dusting, use a damp cloth to lightly wipe over the slats. The blind should be completely dry before pulled up again. Never clean a wood blind with a thinner-based solvent as this would remove the varnish on the slats and will cause irreparable damage to the blind. Remember, treat a wood blind as the investment that it is, therefore, handle with utmost care.
- Our blinds are supplied with ladder string or ladder tape which is closely colour coordinated to the colour of the blind. If you require ladder tape (of 20mm wide cloth) use the same examples as for the wood venetian blinds and either colour co-ordinate them or choose something totally contrasting.
- These luxurious blinds have as standard a wood valance and bottomrail (either real wood or MDF), wood tassels and cord controls which finish off the product stylishly. When side returns are ordered for these valances (mostly in cases where the blinds are fitted face fit), side return brackets with screws will be issued as part of the standard product.
- The side of the blind with the lift control (cordlock) is always referred to as the control side of the blind in blinds with split controls. In other words, when a blind is ordered with a left control, the lift control (cordlock) will be on the left and the tilt control (tilter) will be on the right. Split controls are applicable for wood blinds with a width of 500mm and less.
- Wood venetians are not a total light blockout product. The blind will close sufficiently to ensure privacy but will allow light into the room. It is therefore not entirely room darkening. Venetians that are unusually long in drop will not close snugly (properly) at the bottom and might let a bit more light through than normal and privacy might be affected.
- Due to the nature of the product a slight variation in height may occur from time to time. Where blinds are clearly marked as being in the same room or hanging side by side we will try to match and align the finishes and heights as closely as possible. This can however not always be guaranteed.
- 50mm wood blinds are NOT supplied with installation screws and plugs.
- Wood blinds receive with the valances clear plastic clips to affix the valance to the headrail. Should you prefer velcro instead please indicate this clearly on the order. Remember that wood blinds are heavier than other products, therefore, it is advisable not to order too large a size as it becomes quite heavy to pull up. Wood used for the manufacturing of slats is a stable wood and highly suitable for wood venetian blinds. Always remember though that it still remains a natural product even though it has been treated for the purposes of putting up in a window or against a door.
- NB! Slats must be tilted to the open position before the blind is pulled up.
- NB! Be aware that there will inevitably be dyelot differences (natural product), therefore try and order once off when requiring a number of blinds and indicate whether blinds are in one opening. We can never guarantee the same dyelot in different batches. We even find that there are colour variations in the same batch and then we try our best to sort them.
- Over a period of time fading will occur especially on the darker colours! Please regularly tilt slats in both directions. There is NO GUARANTEE on any wood or related products against fading at any stage as the circumstances under which the blinds hang play a huge role in the speed of fading.
- Should it be evident that these products are treated with disrespect, resulting in damage, unusual/unnatural warping or discolouration, these will not be replaced. Before a complaint is lodged, make sure that you do a full investigation into the reason for the problem, eg windows being left open, too close to the sea, no regular cleaning, window or door frames not fitting snugly into walls, wet or damp areas around the building, thickness and type of glass used for the openings
