How to measure

REMEMBER TO ALWAYS GIVE THE WIDTH FIRST, THEN THE DROP!

 Always specify side of control mechanism. Specify whether the blind is recess or face fit and the control side. (Recess meaning the blind will be installed inside the opening / window and face fit meaning the blind will be fitted in front of the opening, on the front of wall). Indicate the width of slat (50mm or 25mm) as well as the correct colour. For reveal measurements we work to the following: on 25mm & 50mm aluminium venetians we deduct 10mm off width and 5mm off drop; and on 50mm wooden and 50mm PVC venetians we deduct 10mm off width and 5mm off drop; on 50mm Vintage we deduct 15mm off width and 5mm off drop working to a tolerance of 3mm on each product.

When measuring for face fit add ± 100mm for both width and drop. For blinds going down to the floor do the necessary deductions so that the blinds will not “lie” on the floor when they are open full length. Remember that a blind that fits on the outside of a window must hang past the windowsill therefore add on for exact length. For 25mm venetians you are supplied with the necessary components for your DIY project. For the other products only the brackets are supplied as customers prefer to use their own plugs and screws depending on form and position of installation. Remember to order correct blind size!

Recess meaning the blind will be installed inside the opening / window and face fit meaning the blind will be fitted in front of the opening (on the front of wall).

 

For drop, measurement is always taken on shortest side of window or frame or else the blind might “drag” on the sill or floor. Check the depth of the recess (sill). It should always be at least 80mm for 127mm slats (standard width) or 60mm for 90mm slats. For recess fit we deduct 7mm off width and 5mm off drop for windows.When vertical blinds are fitted in to a large opening towards the floor (e.g. into a sliding door) please deduct 15mm off the drop to have good clearance for flooring and / or carpeting.

We work to a tolerance of 3mm. If window sills must still be tiled or floors must still be tiled/carpeted remember to make further necessary deductions. For face fit (outside) measurements add ± 150mm to both sides if possible on width, ie 300mm in total and ± 100mm above window or door frame for drop. Remember that a blind that fits on the outside of a window must hang past the window sill therefore please add on for exact width & drop as explained above. Indicate whether blinds are face fit for required components with which you will be supplied for your DIY project. Should the blind be a centre split (opening like a curtain to both left- and right hand side), please indicate C/S or C/O. If your require the blind to centre stack (all slats drawing to the centre of the track), please indicate C/St. Should the blind otherwise need to stack away from the controls (opposite side of the track than where controls are), please indicate the blind as reverse = Rev.

Should the opening of the blind be normal, this is indicated with an N. Where blinds are installed on two separate tracks but in one opening, the last and first slat of each blind can be laid over one another in order for the blinds to appear as one when closed. Then you require an overlap by indicating O/L. You need only indicate a control length, should it be a specifically required length, ie the blind might be unusually long or positioned very high up against the wall. Do not forget to indicate the fabric range, colour and code/number should there be one. You will notice that a number of the fabrics have numbers or codes next to the colour. The number of runners per track and fabric slats are worked out by us. Remember to order correct blind size!!

On a roller blind if you measure an existing old blind, measure from pin to pin of rod or tube (including the bracket set) which is called the pin-to-pin width. If you measure the cloth size or the width you wish the cloth to cover, this must be specified as the cloth or fabric width.

Remember that the tube width with brackets will extend beyond the above explained fabric width. If a roller blind has to be placed on the outside of a window or behind a door it is always the safest to specify pin-to-pin width or fabric width to ensure that the glass section is covered completely by the fabric. Also remember to measure exact drop of blind. Do not add on fabric to cover the roll as this is done by us. Always specify on which side the control mechanism should be placed. The required components will be supplied for your DIY project. With roller blinds also the width by height (drop), fabric range and colour, reveal, pin-pin (for rollers), fabric size (for rollers), face fit and control sides must be indicated on order. When measuring for face fit add ± 100mm for both width and drop.

For reveal fit we deduct on roller blinds 5mm off width and nothing off drop, working to a tolerance of 3mm to 5mm. Remember to order correct blind size!!

On a roman blind if you measure an existing old blind, measure from end cap to end cap which is called the exact width. With a roman blind this is also called fabric or cloth width.

If a roman blind has to be placed on the outside of a window or behind a door it is always the safest to specify exact width or fabric width to ensure that the glass section is covered completely by the fabric. Also remember to measure exact drop of blind.  Always specify on which side the control mechanism should be placed. The required components will be supplied for your DIY project. With  Xroman blinds also the width by height (drop), fabric range and colour, reveal, fabric size, face fit and control sides must be included on order. When measuring for face fit add ± 100mm for both width and drop.

On roman blinds for reveal fit we deduct; 5mm off width and 10mm off drop, working to a tolerance of 3mm to 5mm. Remember to order correct blind size!!

Depending on the tube size used (either 32mm or 45mm as explained in the introduction) you will need a recess width of approximately 135mm for the 32mm double bracket and approximately 160mm for the 45mm double bracket, this for  reveal fit (inside). The double bracket can however also be installed face fit (outside) which then means the bracket will be installed vertically and not horizontally (as with reveal fit).

For reveal fit we deduct as follows: on roller blinds we deduct 5mm off width and nothing off drop; on roman blinds we deduct 5mm off width and 10mm off drop, working to a tolerance of 3mm to 5mm. Remember to order correct blind size!!

With the Dual Vision blind, the width of the blind will be the size of the cassette (headrail of blind). For reveal (inside) we deduct 5mm off the width and nothing off the drop, working to a tolerance of 3mm to 5mm. For face fit (outside) we do NOT deduct this last mentioned 5mm of the width.  For both fits (reveal and face fit) we will then deduct a further 20mm for the components and therefore the fabric size will at the end be approximately 25mm smaller than the ordered size for reveal fit and approximately 20mm smaller for face fit.

When measuring for face fit add ±100mm for both width and drop.  Remember that a blind that fits on the outside of a window must hang past the windowsill, therefore add on for extra length as explained above.

This product is currently only available with a 32mm tube and intermediate (connecting) brackets are not available for this product.  If you need the fabric only to be the width of your blind (and not the cassette) to cover the opening, the blind needs to be ordered as cloth size / fabric size and this must be specified as the cloth or fabric width.
